The OCEAN Study
Wave 2: The Professional Profile
Study overview
The OCEAN study, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, comprises three ‘waves’ of data collection across four health professional ‘streams’ (for general practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners).
Wave 2 involves completion of a survey customised to each of the health professional groups included in the OCEAN study – general practice nurses, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners.
Each health professional who is identified by practices in Wave 1 and consents to being contacted by the study team will be asked to complete the Professional Profile. This survey asks about their education, skills, experience and scope of practice.
The roll-out of the Professional Profile will be staggered by health professional group. General practice nurses and nurse practitioners will be the first to be approached in late 2025/early 2026, physiotherapists will be approached in early 2026 and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners later in 2026.
The Professional Profile should take about 15 to 30 minutes to complete and can be completed on a computer, phone or tablet.
